In 1973 The Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) was founded to save our native breeds, and since then no breed has become extinct. RBST is the UK’s only charity dedicated to conserving Britain’s native farm livestock.
The Rare Breeds Survival Trust acts as the registration authority for eight sheep breeds:
Boreray, Castlemilk Moorit, Manx Loaghtan, Norfolk Horn, North Ronaldsay, Portland, Soay and Whitefaced Woodland. We record the births of these purebred sheep in the Combined Flock Book which is published annually.
Uniquely combining long standing and practical knowledge of livestock breeding with professional computer programming, Grassroots Systems Ltd have been developing software for pedigree livestock farmers and Breed Societies since 1997. Grassroots Systems Ltd currently manages the Combined Flock Book for the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST).
NADIS was formed in 1995 to promote animal health and welfare through better disease control and prevention. NADIS recognises this is best achieved by active veterinary health planning. Key to improving health is disease surveillance and veterinary based, animal health Knowledge Transfer, delivered to farmers by their veterinary surgeon.
